Bass

I've played bass guitar with some of Scotlands top function bands. I'm currently the bass player for 3AM. I also record bass remotely for a few different artists.

My books

I'm an author of two books about playing music live.

Looking back on a couple of decades of playing in and running successful function bands, there didn't seem to be much advice for players wanting to juggle music with their main job.

While plenty of books looking at instrument-specific technique have a side-bar of advice on how to move into to the world of professsional music, I couldn't find any books aimed that would help all musicians understand what's involved in the world of function bands. So I wrote it.

Money For Nothing is an easy read, helping you get to grips with the equipment you need right through to to nailing your first audition. Ideal for musicians that want to look behind the sparkly curtain of wedding bands (or function bands as they're sometimes called).

Go Your Own Way explores how you can start up your own band on your own terms. You'll learn to craft setlists, what jobs need to be done in the band and how to make sure you're actually making money from your band.

Go Your Own Way

Putting your own band together can feel like stepping into the great unknown. It's part thrill ride, part terror-coaster.
The sequel to Money For Nothing, Go Your Own Way aims to take all the terror out of it and leave the thrill. You'll find out how to forge your band identity, what jobs need to be done in any band and how to get the right people working alongside you.

Most importantly, you'll find out what it takes to run a band - and why I'm confident that you already have it.

These are the classics that are regularly in my party setlists.

You'll need to add new 'bangers', but these are the evergreens.
